New for the end of 2007!

The eArThworm found this damp day a good time to crawl up to the computer and get busy at the keyboard. Here’s what she’s done today:

Hiking with Children: added this new category under OUTDOOR SKILLS.
The Long Trail: added this new trail description in THE TRAILS.
Appalachian Trail. Memoirs.: added The Adventures of the Barefoot Sisters under Letcher, Elizabeth L., and Susan G. Letcher.
First Aid and General Outdoors Skills: updated with latest editions and added a few new books/videos in these sections.
FEATURED BOOK! A brand-new category for a book-of-the-month.
AND…
Coming soon to this website!: Book lists for the American Discovery Trail and the Ice Age Trail. Stay tuned.
Oh yes…
…and she learned how to change font styles and colors!! 🙂

In the market for one of the books or videos?

I’ve begun the process of making each title, where possible, link to a site where it can be purchased. Some of the older (or more ephemeral) books and videos are not available at Amazon.com or other online book stores, but I’ll be linking all I can find. In some cases I may link to out-of-print booksellers, but those links may not work forever, as the stores’ copies get sold.

I’ve begun by making the links in the shorter lists, like the Florida Trail and the Long Trail. I’ll work my way through the other, longer, trails lists and then begin on the other book lists like “Food & Cooking.” It may take some time, so keep checking back over the next few weeks and I hope you’ll notice some progress.

Happy reading!
~~ eArThworm

Welcome and acknowledgments

Welcome hikers!

I owe a HUGE debt of gratitude to Sandy Friend, Communications Director of the Florida Trail Association & website-guru extraordinaire, for her creation of this blog’s header from my rough ‘drawing-on-a-napkin’ and for hosting this new site. Also a big ‘thank you’ to Mara Factor, hiker extraordinaire and gear guru, for hosting my “Backcountry Bibliography” on her website for quite some time.

Today I have a lot on my plate, putting the final touches on details for my hikes (as an Activity Leader) and for monthly programs (as Program Chair) for our local chapter (Apalachee) of the Florida Trail Association. Our Fall planning meeting is tonight. Tomorrow, I hope to start uploading the Backcountry Bibliography onto this site. There will be a learning curve of course, but I hope it’s a small one. ~~ eArThworm

Welcome to Books for Hikers!

I’m proud to announce the new incarnation of “Backcountry Bibliography,” which Linda “eArThworm” Patton has been maintaining on Mara Factor’s “Travels and Trails” website at http://friends.backcountry.net/m_factor for many years. Welcome to her new site, Books for Hikers! This site will contain all of the current Backcountry Bibliography and will be continually updated with new books/videos on trails already in the bibliography, and with additional trails (and their books/videos). Stop by to find books and videos on your favorite trail, and leave comments on books you’ve read. You can also look for trail book/video reviews on her blog at http://trailsbib.blogspot.com/. Thanks again, Linda, for providing this resource for the hiking community! Cheers, Sandra “Navigator” Friend
